One or two months on paper, and then you can use any online tool or app you want. There are a million different ways to track your budget, but for right now I want you to be able to do it on paper. This simple way of budgeting solves all of those problems. If you skip this step, then you run the risk of overdraft (when you spend more than you have in your bank account and get charged a fee). Unless you have a healthy cushion in the bank account, it’s not only important to start a budget, it’s important to know when money is going in and coming out.
